Year 13 Trip to the Dunedin Tertiary Open Day

The Dunedin Tertiary Open Day is an immersive event designed to give a you first-hand experience of what the tertiary environment is like.

As a school take  interested year 13 students and  travel down in vans on the Sunday morning.  On arrival we drop off gear at the Leith Valley holiday park (where we stay overnight).  We then travel to a hall of residence for a meal and a tour of facilities , as well as catching up with the some ex students sharing their experiences.

That evening students plan out their program for the Monday. On the Monday students are dropped at the University or Polytechnic and are able to attend information sessions, OUSA events, lectures, halls and campus tours and more. Student the meet and depart later that day to return to Christchurch.

University of Canterbury Year 12 Discovery Day

The event is structured just like a real university day, following an individual timetable that you as a  Year 12s select .

On the day rangatahi/students will:

  • Take part in six lectures of their choice and see how their school subjects relate to university
  • Discover the differences between school and university during the Intro to UC session
  • Connect with UC and the other rangitahi/students while understanding what their next steps could be.
How to register
Each student needs to register and pick their timetable online by 4pm, Friday 22 March.
You can view the timetable and session descriptions here. Students need to select six lectures from the timetable and the lunch break. A packed lunch will be provided at lunchtime in the Engineering Core.
Choose your lectures and register online and the careers department will then be notified.  Students will be bused to and from the event from Papanui High School

Visiting Year 12’s are expected to wear school uniform and bring a rain jacket or umbrella if it is set to rain.

Year 13 Maori on campus experience at Otago University

Applications are now open for the On Campus Experience (OCE), which is a wonderful opportunity for Year 13 Māori secondary school students to explore the University of Otago and the city of Dunedin. The OCE scholarship provides each successful applicant with return airfares to Dunedin, accommodation, meals and activities.

Students will have the opportunity to attend lectures in their areas of interest, as well as meet academic staff and current students. They will experience life in a Residential College, and meet the Māori Centre staff, who provide great support for Māori students when they come to Otago.Entries are sought from full time Year 13 students of Māori descent, who are currently enrolled in a New Zealand secondary school, and are considering studying at the University of Otago in 2020. All applicants should be students who are completing an appropriate programme at secondary school level, which will lead them to meet University Entrance

Audience: This event aims primarily at students of Secondary schools in the Canterbury region and their teachers and parents – however  everyone is welcome. There will be plenty of time for questions and discussion, including the study of Astronomy at UC.

Speech and Language Therapy – Campus Experience Day

Do you have students interested in the health sector, and wanting to find out more about what a career in Speech and Language Therapy entails? If so, they may be interested in the Massey University Speech and Language Therapy Campus Experience Day.

Massey has arranged to host senior students interested in learning more about this area and the programme at Massey University, at our Albany Community Clinic on campus for the day. Here they will have the opportunity to observe Speech and Language Therapy at work, meet with our current students and staff, as well as take part in practical activities related to the area.

This event is aimed at students in Years 12 and 13, who are studying, or on track to study English and a Science or Mathematics subject to Level 3 or equivalent.

Students  will need to fill in details of the subjects they are studying, as well as have  their school provide a reference for them.

Please ensure that all application forms are returned to  by Wednesday 1st August 2018 at the latest.

The registrations are open for Communication Experience Day which is to be held on Friday the 15th of June on the Wellington campus.

The programme for the day:

9:30 – Welcome and overview of the Bachelor of Communication and Career pathways

Student panel – listen to second and third year students discuss life at campus, studying through the Communication programme and the opportunity to ask questions.

UC Law Day

Law Day is a half-day session for Year 13 students which will provide a positive on-campus experience while enthusing students in specific areas of legal studies. Students will engage in discussion of real cases, touching on topics pertinent to the 1st Year Law Course, and will have an opportunity to meet current and future legal professionals. Attendees will be provided with a resource pack allowing them to share their experiences with their peers on return to school.
