Year 10 into 11 Course Selection Evening

At 7pm on Tuesday the 28th September we are holding an information evening for students and whanau to prepare our current year 10 students to select courses for 2019. 2019 will be their first year sitting NCEA and the evening will provide an insight into the structure of NCEA , as well as assisting students with course selection.

The evening begins with  a 20 minute presentation in the school hall at 7pm. This is then followed by the opportunities for parents and whanau to speak with teaching staff from each department in the J block. These staff will be able to provide information around courses and aid in the selection process.

Students then have until Friday the 7th September to submit their course selection online.

Interested in social work as a career?

Social Work Information Evening 

In early September ARA is holding an information session about our Bachelor of Social Work. At this session we’ll provide an overview of the programme and the benefits of studying social work at Ara. We’ll also discuss the many career opportunities available to qualified social workers in New Zealand.

Senior Course Selection Evening

This coming Thursday (16/08) is the senior course selection evening.

The evening will begin with an information session:

Year 11 students and whanau:   6:30pm in the school hall

Year 12 students and whanau:   7:00pm in the study centre

This is a key event for all senior students to provide guidance on the course selection process, as students progress from year 11 into 12, and from year 12 into 13. Mapping out the pathway each student will take in their remaining years allows for a successful transition from high school into the tertiary sector, further training, or the workforce. Students benefit greatly from your input as well as the expert advice from those present on the evening.

Teaching staff will be available in the J block rooms to help with selection advice on subject choices.

We have a wide range of providers that will be available in the J block foyer to discuss career pathways. These providers include:

Parents as Career Educators Seminar

Guiding teenagers through the various career and study options available to them in the modern world can be a challenge. UC Career Consultant Dave Petrie will talk with you about how you can support your child’s career decisions.

He has 19 years’ experience working in the Career and Employment field, including 7 years working in Career Education in Secondary Schools with Careers New Zealand before coming to UC.
